More anxious to get me processed than to share the latest on bird sightings,in contrast to the previous owners

Price increase of around 20% on the bird seed I usually purchase (I had bags left in storage from a previous bulk buy). Advertising postcard did not have prices of the various types of bird seed, nor do I remember prices being posted above the bags, nor was the price disclosed when at the cashier, so it was only after receiving my receipt that I saw how much the bird seed was priced at.

This store was one of the finest stores in Santa Fe. You got the feeling that the owners and staff loved birds. They offered regular sales that were appropriate to the season and the patterns of birds. I came 2-3 times a month to make a purchase because of the sales. With the new owners, the shine of this store has tarnished. In the old store, I would walk in and be greeted. Most of the staff knew my name. Henry was so nice and always available to carry your seeds to my truck. The current staff is totally different - which says something. They look up, but NO ONE said Hi -this has happened several times. They didn't look happy. The young man at check out was polite but did not engage in any conversation as would have been done with the old staff. I know other folks who feel the same way. The new owners don't have the same passion for birds and dedication in sharing that passion to customers. To be honest, I am now going to a store that is more convenient. It makes me really sad to say this, but the long time previous owners created a special place which the new owners have destroyed. I guess another point for the corporate side. I am a manager of a retail store.

New employees who know next to nothing about birds or the products.

There were 2 males standing on each side of the door when I enetered. They both said hello. Then they commensed their conversation. I was standing 10 feet away looking at the feed cylinders. I could hear clearly their personal conversation. Not once did either of them or another employee offer assistance. Gratefully I am a regular customer and knew what I wanted. That’s because the previous owners had excellent customer service. That’s why I am familar with the products. It’s a lot to choose from for different conditions here in SF. The woman at the checkout was pleasant. I made my purchase and left and the two men were still standing by the door still having their conversation. They did say goodbye when I left. The last owners are a tough act to follow. I was always asked if I needed help, what I was looking for, an education about what I needed for my location (out on the plains going south), and general bird talk. I felt taken care of when I and felt like I was an important customer. I felt like the two guys up front were just there to carry bags to the car and wouldn’t know much about the products if I asked them.

I thought the young fellow who checked me out was neither nice nor helpful. Barely had eye contact and never offered to take my items to the car. They weren’t busy and I’m 70 years old. I can order online thru Amazon and get free shipping. I’ll be doing more of that.
